PEORIA (25News Now) – Pop culture fans took advantage of QuadCon’s appearance in Peoria this weekend to fill their comic book collections and secure their favorite action figures.
QuadCon travels around the Midwest, allowing vendors to share and sell their work and assortments, including games, comics, posters, action figures, and more.
This weekend’s gathering at Northwoods Mall featured about 45 vendors, and Event Coordinator John Wells estimates it attracted more than 1,500 people.
Wells said popular TV shows like The Big Band Theory helped establish this genre’s popularity.
“When I was growing up, you didn’t go around telling people that you read comic books or played Dungeons and Dragons or you’d get beat up in the corner, so now it’s very mainstream, and it’s very accepted,” said Wells.
Wells said he had customers who traveled from Chicago and even Iowa to participate in this weekend’s show.
QuadCon will return to Peoria the weekend of Nov. 8.
