From the archives – A flipped over school bus and people shopping for Valentine’s Day

Messenger File Photo

ST. ALBANS — Photos from this week in 1975 are missing from the Messenger’s archives, so let’s jump a decade backward and take a look at February 1965.

There are several photos of people shopping including a woman showing off a heart-shaped box of chocolates, a reminder that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. There’s also a woman holding up a cereal box at a local market.

Do you remember what grocery shopping was like 60 years ago? In 1965, eggs cost $.53 per dozen and milk was $1.05 per gallon.

Disaster has struck in several other photos that show a school bus upside down. In the distance a police car can be seen, with an officer making sure people stay back and that everyone is safe.

In a more cheery scene, two young children wheel around on tricycles in a driveway. Do you recognize these young faces?
