GARDNER, Kan. (KCTV) – A special election has renewed a half-cent sales tax in Gardner, Kansas.

Gardner residents voted to renew the special sales tax, continuing an investment in infrastructure improvements the city says is critical for the next decade.

The special election, which concluded Tuesday, asked voters whether to extend an existing half-cent sales tax.

“The approval of this sales tax reflects our community’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that impacts daily life,” said Mayor Todd Winters. “Investing in our public spaces strengthens Gardner’s future, attracts economic development and improves residents’ quality of life.”

The renewed tax takes effect on New Year’s Day in 2026 and will remain in place for 10 years.

“I appreciate every resident who participated in this election, regardless of how they voted,” Winters added. “This renewal will fund improvements that benefit our entire community for years to come.”
