If you haven’t lived in Amarillo very long you may not realize that we once had two malls. Yes, we did. We could run to Western Plaza to get our shopping done or head over to Westgate Mall. Heck, some days we would have to make a run to both.
Then over the years, we lost Western Plaza. First, they tried to make a run with it by adding Graham’s Central Station as a last-ditch effort. Then they just closed down and tore down the whole mall. In its place sits Western Crossing.
Amarillo is Down to Having One Mall
It consists of many restaurants, shopping locations, and even a hotel or two. Not the mall that was once in its place. So the only true shopping mall that Amarillo still has is Westgate Mall.
It’s still going but man thinking back and reliving all of the great places that once called Westgate Mall their home. It’s crazy how the years have changed our mall. We had a lot of stores. We were lucky to have some good restaurants to add to the choices in the food court. Even the food court has had some major changes over the years.
We could go there to catch a movie or even play a round of Lights Off Golf. Yep, Westgate Mall has changed over the years. Oh. how I miss the days I was dropped off at the mall with maybe $20 and a day of shopping ahead of me.
