PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) – The City of Pikeville is writing a love letter to its community, hoping they will show some love in return.
Businesses throughout the downtown area are decorated in Valentine’s Day themes, pushing the importance of loving your downtown areas.
“February is the month for love. So, we’re gonna love downtown and love our neighbors,” said Main Street Board Member Lisa Pinson.
Pikeville Main Street is hosting an event with the small shops Saturday, inviting folks to “Love Your Downtown.” The event includes photo opportunities in Valentine Alley, a “Sip-n-Shop” event in partnership with Pauley Hollow Distillery, and more.
“Come out and shop local, hopefully. Eat in one of our many restaurants downtown- some will be having specials for the day,” said Pinson. “You can shop downtown as well. Two Chicks is offering a ‘Galentines Party,’ And, of course, if you stop at Shoppes at 225, Pauley Hollow will be here.”
The event, which is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, leads up to a night of live music at Pearce’s Place and Bank 253.
Those involved say it is a great time to find those unique Valentine’s Day gifts. But it is more about showing a little love to the local businesses, especially since they have seen fewer customers in recent weeks due to the weather.
“It’s very important. These are your friends, your neighbors, the people you have known for years who are trying to survive,” said Pinson. “It’s very important to shop local and support those local stores. Because if we do not, the we’ll no longer have these places to shop.”
