Google Maps is getting closer to Waze with the ability to customize your car icon when navigating.
Since 2020, Google Maps has let you choose from four vehicle icons: arrow in white circle, red sedan, yellow SUV, or green pickup truck.
Google Maps for Android is now prompting users about “early access to customize your vehicle icon’s style & color.” This “Your ride, your way” card is appearing for some users when they search for Drive directions.
If rolled out to you, you can also tap the customize icon next to close in the corner. In “Trip options,” you’ll find “Vehicle icon while navigating.”
In this new carousel, you’ll find five vehicles, which are a bit more detailed: luxury (?) sedan, off-road pickup, SUV, sports car, or hatchback.
You can pick from one of eight colors: Glacier white, Night black, Ash gray, Poppy red, Sky blue, Sunny yellow, Aqua green, or Sunset magenta.
The previous four choices remain available in the carousel.
We’re seeing these new car icons with Google Maps beta version 25.06.x for Android. It’s not available in the stable channel yet, but has already launched on iOS.
