GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Progress is being made on the Altru Sports and Aquatics Complex in Grand Forks.
In an update at the Grand Forks City Council meeting on February 3, city staff and the architects on the project say the design development phase is about 70 to 75-percent complete. They hope to finalize the design by the end of February, and put together a package for bids.
Right now, the total base project cost comes in about $6 million over budget at $115.9 million. However, the total cost of the project will likely change as bids come in and the design is finalized. Representatives from JLG Architects say there’s about $13 million worth of contingencies built into the plan.
The plan also includes project ‘alternates’ which could be accepted or removed from the plan, depending on the total cost.
City council members say they are adamant about staying on budget and delivering what the taxpayers voted for and approved.
“Just because we have to get down to budget doesn’t mean we sacrifice design. There’s a lot of things we can do and I think that what we’ve done here is a pretty good job in trying to find a way. This is a very exciting building, a very durable long-lasting building that we can get done,” said Adam Davidson, JLG Architects.
More information will be presented to city council and public in March and April with bid numbers and an update on the cost of the project.
The three main areas of the complex are aquatics, turf, and pickle ball. It will be located next to Hugo’s Raceway and the future Grand Forks Children’s Museum.
