CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education will meet Monday evening to discuss financial reports, infrastructure projects, and ongoing district initiatives. The agenda includes public hearings on the 2025-2026 school year calendar and school safety. The board will also review budget summaries, personnel updates, and agreements with organizations such as Iowa Legal Aid and the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance.
Public comment is scheduled during the meeting.
Though not formally listed on the agenda, the College and Career Pathways program remains a major topic of community discussion. The district recently announced a slower rollout of the program after pushback from parents and teachers who raised concerns about student choice, transportation and a lack of early communication. The latest revisions include a “preparation year” in 2025, with a required freshman seminar by 2026 and career courses for upperclassmen by 2027.
The district’s long-term infrastructure plans are also expected to draw attention following the board’s recent approval of a $7.5 million land purchase for a new middle school. The purchase, which would use Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds, has sparked debate, with the district supporting the move as a step toward a future bond referendum while others question whether the funds should instead be directed toward existing schools.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Educational Leadership & Support Center and is open to the public.
