80′ PSG 3-2 Manchester City
Another Manchester City collapse in the Champions League! Another PSG comeback! Guardiola brought on Stones for Nunes, on the face of it a defensive move, a conservative move.
It sees Stones in at centre-half, Josko Gvardiol to left-back, Rico Lewis across to right-back. Theoretically, everyone in their best positions. But Stones was cold, and Stones was rusty, and that has cost Manchester City dear.
PSG had the free-kick out wide on their right side for a handball by Rico Lewis, which is maybe a little harsh, I’m not sure he meant it. Anyway, Vitinha curled it in, great delivery, and John Stones was the man in the middle who should have cleared.
He misjudged the flight of the ball, honest mistake and understandable as he had just come off the bench, but a mistake nonetheless. He flicked his head at it and missed it. Waiting at the far post, and onside, was little Joao Neves.
The Portuguese slammed his diving header into the ground and past Ederson, who rather fell into the post. Comeback complete!
