Who is the most dangerous player in the NFL playoffs this year?
USAT NFL Reporter Tyler Dragon shares who NFL teams should look out for this postseason.
Sports Seriously
The military is set to battle a group of pirates on Sunday night with a trip to the divisional round on the line.
It’s the Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the Sunshine State to conclude the Sunday slate of wild card weekend. While Tampa Bay backed into the postseason, requiring some help to clinch a spot, Washington has surprised all season long in what was supposed to be a transition year.
The Commanders franchise has been revived in the post-Dan Snyder era and now has an electric must-see quarterback, Jayden Daniels, who consistently dazzles fans whenever he steps on the gridiron. A once disgraced franchise is now part of the NFL’s cool kids club.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers were supposed to experience success for a few years with Tom Brady before returning to irrelevancy. Instead, Baker Mayfield arrived and has kept the winning going in Tampa. While neither franchise would typically be considered amongst the NFL’s marquee names, “Sunday Night Football” promises to be a good one with plenty of points and highlights along the way.
Here’s a look at the top player props and anytime TD scorers to back in tonight’s matchup on wild card weekend.
NFL best bets today: Buccaneers vs. Commanders playoffs
All odds are via BetMGM as of Saturday.
Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan OVER 52.5 receiving yards (-125)
McMillan is making Buccaneers’ fans forget about Chris Godwin, who is out for the season. The rookie has been an impact player over the back half of the season, finishing with at least 50 receiving yards in five straight games. While we need more than that here, McMillan is clearly in the circle of trust for Mayfield and should benefit from this matchup. Mike Evans is slated to draw the Marshon Lattimore assignment, meaning Tampa will have to rely on their other skill position players to step up. McMillan is in for a big day in his first NFL playoff action.
Commanders TE Zach Ertz OVER 38.5 receiving yards (-110)
On a young team like the Commanders, we will target a veteran like Ertz to step up. It also doesn’t hurt that the tight end has been a favorite weapon for Daniels, playing a key role in the team’s run to the playoffs. He scored six touchdowns in his last seven and should be in line for a solid yardage day in Tampa. The Buccaneers allow the second-most yards to the position (67.3), which should help Daniels and the Washington offense settle into their first playoff action as a group.
Commanders QB Jayden Daniels anytime TD (+185)
While the rookie quarterback has made significant strides since his debut in Week 1, we can’t ignore what he did in September. Daniels totaled 16 carries, 88 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the best running performance against the Bucs this year. Sunday night’s game should feature plenty of Daniels as a runner, meaning he’ll undoubtedly have the chance to run one in himself. He has six rushing scores this year and is averaging 8.7 carries and 52.4 yards per game. The rookie scored both touchdowns off the read option at the goal line in Week 1. He’ll do it again on Sunday night.
Buccaneers TE Cade Otton anytime TD (+260)
After missing the last three games of the regular season with a knee injury, Otton is back for the Bucs postseason opener. It’s been a breakout season for the third-year tight end, who finished his regular season with 600 yards and four touchdowns. Emerging as another reliable target for Mayfield, Otton gets a matchup against the team that allowed the fifth-most touchdowns to the position through 18 weeks. If it hasn’t been McMillan scoring, it’s been the Tampa Bay tight ends recently. Considering the attention being paid to Evans, let’s take a shot on Otton getting the chance to celebrate his return to the lineup in style.
