LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln is now a regional destination for those pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
Southeast Community College held its ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sandhills Global Technology Center on Wednesday afternoon.
“We’re extremely excited about the learning and all the innovation that’s going to happen in this new facility, but most importantly that we are directly addressing the skilled workforce gap here in Nebraska,” Southeast Community College President Paul Illich said.
The $37 million facility aims to address the state’s skilled workforce shortage by partnering with local businesses and industries to provide direct pathways for students to enter the workforce after graduation.
The facility’s offerings include biotechnology, design drafting, electronic systems and information technology.
The project was made possible through a combination of federal funds and private donations. Sandhills Global contributed $5 million, making it the largest private donation Southeast Community College has received.
The building will welcome its first students on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
