HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The federal bipartisan infrastructure law has led to a series of grants being awarded to Connecticut for rail service upgrades.

A news conference with Gov. Ned Lamont, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, and Rep. Jahana Hayes was set for Monday afternoon to discuss the details.

They said that since its approval, the bipartisan infrastructure law provided Connecticut with billions of dollars in grants to modernize infrastructure across the state in what has been the largest influx of federal infrastructure investments in history.

The newly announced grants include:

  • Increasing daily service on the Hartford Line: $11.6 million to increase weekday, roundtrip service on the CTrail Hartford Line from New Haven to Springfield, MA.
  • Consolidating crossings on the Danbury Branch in Danbury and Norwalk: $2.4 million to study alternative options and develop preliminary engineering plans for the consolidation of crossings on the Metro-North Railroad’s Danbury Branch in Norwalk and Danbury.
  • Reconnecting Hartford’s north end: $2 million to study options and develop preliminary engineering plans to reconnect Hartford’s north end neighborhood with surrounding neighborhoods, including through the lowering and capping of Interstate 84 and the Hartford Line rail corridor.
  • Reconnecting New Haven: $2 million to study the removal of physical barriers and the restoration of connectivity across I-91 throughout New Haven, from Fair Haven to the Long Wharf district.
  • Eliminating the Toelles Road crossing in Wallingford: $400,000 to study the feasibility of closing the existing at-grade crossing at Toelles Road in Wallingford along the Hartford Line rail corridor and construct a new roadway bridge to carry Toelles Road over the railway and Route 5.

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto were also set to participate in the news conference.
