The Trenton City Council is set to convene on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will also be accessible to the public via Zoom, offering an option for those unable to attend in person.
The session will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance and an opening prayer before moving to official proceedings. Council members will review and approve the minutes from the December 23, 2024, meeting and examine financial reports, including outstanding bills. Public comments will follow, providing an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts and concerns.
Two significant ordinances are slated for discussion and potential approval. The first, titled Bill No. 1, addresses a proposal between the City of Trenton and Larry Bunker for leasing the “North Farm” farmland owned by the city. If passed, the ordinance would authorize the mayor and city clerk to execute the lease agreement on behalf of the city.
The second ordinance, Bill No. 2, proposes placing a sales tax for economic development purposes before Trenton voters. This measure would establish an Economic Development Sales Tax Board and program to oversee the distribution and use of funds. The council’s decision on this bill could have far-reaching implications for the city’s economic growth initiatives.
In addition to legislative matters, the council will address new business items aimed at maintaining and improving city infrastructure. The agenda includes discussions and potential approval of bids for asphalt rock and sand hauling, both critical components of road maintenance projects.
The council will also deliberate on replacing the ceiling in the airport office, underscoring its commitment to maintaining city-owned facilities.
The meeting will conclude with any unfinished business and discussions on newly presented items before adjournment. Residents interested in attending virtually can join via the Zoom link.
