PALMDALE — A new warehouse on Technology Drive was given the go-ahead by the Palmdale Planning Commission last week.
The nearly 282,000 square-foot facility will be on 12.74 acres on the north side of Technology Drive, between Trade Center Drive and Fifth Street West, across the street from the existing Amazon warehouse.
The 35 loading dock doors will be on the one-story building’s north side, to the building’s rear, Planning Manager Brenda Magaña said in her presentation to the commission.
Truck access to the warehouse will be from Trade Center Drive and Fifth Street West; passenger vehicles only will have access from a driveway on Technology Drive.
In addition to the warehouse itself, the project includes improvements to the site such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks and the like.
The Planning Commission unanimously approved a Conditional Use Permit and Site Plan Review to allow for the warehouse’s construction.
There is no end user for the facility, Magaña said.
“When an end user is available for the site, we will evaluate the hours of operation, noise, dust lighting, etc.,” she said.
Because the warehouse site is near hotels, that will be taken into consideration in setting such requirements, she said.
The warehouse is part of the in more than 10 million square feet of industrial space in development in the city. The most prominent of these is the 1.03 million-square-foot Trader Joe’s distribution and food packing facility under construction at Columbia Way (Avenue M) and 10th Street West.
