Google Launches Online Fashion Store

Must read

Google has launched a personalised online fashion store called Boutiques.com, which ultimately lets users create and edit their own boutiques. According to Google product management director Munjal Shah, it uses computer vision and machine learning technology “to visually analyse your taste and match it to items you would like”.

Users can also follow boutiques created by celebrities, stylists, designers, and fashion bloggers, with the site currently boasting boutiques compiled by more than 30 people, including actresses Ginnifer Goodwin and Carey Mulligan.

“We asked [the celebrities] not just to curate 10-50 great items they loved, but also to teach our site their style and taste,” Shah said. “They did this by telling us what colours, patterns, brands and silhouettes they loved and they hated. Our machine learning algorithms use this information to enable you to shop all of the inventory in the style of that taste-maker, on top of the 50 items they’ve hand curated.”

While Boutiques.com is currently limited to the US only, there are plans to expand in the near future.
