EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – At perhaps one of the most crucial times for holiday shopping, the power has gone out at a busy Columbia County shopping center.
The power went out late in the morning on Tuesday, Christmas Eve.
How Georgia Power is justifying another looming rate hike
Georgia Power is preparing to raise rates yet again, with a 3.5% hike taking effect next Wednesday. The utility says the money will be used to pay for grid improvements, investments in cleaner energy and customer service upgrades.

As of 11:12 a.m., Georgia Power showed 626 customers without electricity on a stretch of Washington Road that includes Mullins Crossing.
Traffic has been busy for the past several days at the shopping center that includes a Kohl’s, Ross, Marshalls and Ulta, among other national chains.
