MIDDLESEX COUNTY – For 27 years, Middlesex County’s 4-H Youth Development Program has been hosting Project GIFT. The annual event provides a day of holiday shopping for county families and youth in need.

This year, Project GIFT, held on Dec. 15, benefited more than 110 families and 300 youth.

More than 75 4-H teens dedicated hours to plan and execute the event, from organizing donation drives to coordinating the day’s activities.

“This program embodies the spirit of generosity and community that defines Middlesex County,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. “Through Project GIFT, we have the privilege of spreading holiday cheer to families who need it most. We are deeply grateful to the 4-H members, advisors, and the countless County residents who have made this program a success year after year.”

The event featured thousands of donated gifts and additional services, including gift-wrapping, an area where parents stuffed stockings for their children, snacks and refreshments, and childcare.

Founded in 1997, Project GIFT has become a cornerstone during the holiday season. Over the years, the program has distributed more than 25,000 gifts, raised more than $225,000 through donations and fundraising, and engaged local teens in more than 75,000 hours of community service.

“Project GIFT is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Chanelle Scott McCullum, chair of the Economic Development Committee. “It’s heartwarming to see the joy it brings to families and the dedication of our 4-H teens, who work tirelessly to make this event happen. This is what the holiday season is all about − community, kindness, and giving.”
