MARSHALL, Mich. — The Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) announced Tuesday that major water and sewer infrastructure improvements are coming to the Marshall Area Jobs, Opportunity and Recreation (MAJOR) Campus.
The organization said these improvements are meant to provide a reliable, consistent water supply and distribution system for businesses as well as residents in area communities.
Upgrades include a 4.5 million-gallon water storage tank, new high-service pump station, filter improvements at Marshall’s water treatment plant, valve and piping replacements, and a new backup generator that will allow for water to continue to be treated during a power outage, officials said.
Additionally, MAEDA said the infrastructure work is taking place in and around the campus that is home to Ford’s future BlueOval Battery Park.
“These are significant improvements to our water delivery system that will benefit thousands of people who live and work in Marshall Township, the City of Marshall, and Emmett Township,” James Durian, CEO of MAEDA, said. “These investments will allow us to have enough water on hand for reserves and for fighting fires if needed.”
80 new fire hydrants along 14 miles of roadways will also be installed, which officials say will make it easier for firefighters to put out fires.
In all, officials said the following infrastructure improvements will include:
- 14 miles of water transmission main
- 4.5-million-gallon water storage tank
- One new and one upgraded water pump station
- Two miles of wastewater force main
- One new sanitary pump station
- Water treatment plant improvements
MAEDA did not specify when these projects are expected to be completed.
