WEST VIRGINIA (WCHS) — The West Virginia School Building Authority has decided to move forward with a dozen projects addressing infrastructure.
The SBA approved $65 million in funding Tuesday, with four counties looking ahead to the construction of new schools:
Putnam County will use $8.3 million to build a new Hurricane Middle School. The SBA pledged to earmark the same amount for three consecutive years, posting a total of $25 million for the project.
The SBA made another three-year commitment to Kanawha County with $6.7 million going to Upper Kanawha Valley Elementary School. Over the years, the SBA will budget $20.3 million for the new school.
Nearly $17 million has been allocated for Monongalia County to fund the new Suncrest Middle School. That total will be split between two payments over as many years.
In Berkeley County, $4 million will support the new Inwood Learning Center.
Eight counties will receive funding for improvements of existing facilities, according to the SBA:
Grant County will spend $1.8 million on safe school additions and improvements at Petersburg High School.
Greenbrier County plans to spend $14 million to renovate and add on to White Sulphur Springs Elementary.
Hardy County was allotted more than $900,000 for security upgrades at East Hardy Elementary and Moorefield Middle.
Harrison County has been awarded $5.3 million to expand the Robert C. Byrd Career & Technical Center along with the Mountaineer Middle School Cafeteria.
Logan County will budget nearly $3.6 million to replace fire alarms, HVAC and electrical equipment at Man High School.
Marion County has been awarded $2.7 million for improvements at safe school entrances at nine locations.
Monroe County will use $4.5 million for improvements at James Monroe High School Technical Center.
Pleasants County plans to spend nearly $1.5 million on electrical, lighting and sprinkler system upgrades at Pleasants County Middle.
