COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX)—As the countdown to Christmas inches closer, one area business said it’s starting to see holiday shoppers show up earlier and earlier.
With Christmas less than two weeks away, shoppers in Century Square are hunting for the perfect gift, while retail workers at Onward Reserve say they’ve been kept on their toes.
“We’ve had a couple of bad days with the rain lately, but it’s been pretty busy with Christmas shopping and lots of gift wrapping,” London Kjos, a sales associate, said.
Kjos has noticed a new trend emerging.
You may have seen Christmas decorations showing up in stores before Halloween passes, and holiday shoppers are starting to follow a similar pattern.
“I mean, right off after Thanksgiving we’re seeing people come in and say they were getting last-minute Christmas things when, you know, Christmas shopping for me hadn’t even started yet,” she remarked.
Even her coworker Parks Dagley, who’s experiencing his first holiday season working retail, has picked up on this shopping shift.
“Definitely been seeing people coming earlier this year,” he said, “I didn’t know what to expect, but literally right after Thanksgiving getting a lot of people.”
Despite the unexpectedly early Christmas crowd, Dagley said the holiday season has certainly kept him busy.
“I love it. I love seeing people coming in, making conversation and the people we get here are the best. So I really enjoy it,” he added.
