The winner of the 2024 Heisman Trophy, recognizing the most outstanding college football player in the country, will be announced Saturday, Dec. 14, at a ceremony in New York City.

The finalists were announced on Dec. 9 and feature players from four different schools in four different conferences: Oregon senior quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Colorado junior wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, Boise State junior running back Ashton Jeanty, and Miami senior quarterback Cam Ward.

According to the Heisman Trophy Trust’s website, votes are cast from media members, former award recipients and one overall fan vote cast in the group of ballots.

Last year, Louisiana State University quarterback Jayden Daniels took home the award as a senior. He was later selected with the second overall pick in the NFL draft by the Washington Commanders.

Of the last 10 award recipients, eight of them were quarterbacks, and all are current NFL players.

Two of the Heisman finalists, Jeanty and Gabriel, will appear in the upcoming College Football Playoff with Boise State and Oregon, respectively.

Miami missed the College Football Playoff and will play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State.

Hunter’s head coach is NFL legend Deion Sanders, whose son Shedeur Sanders is the starting quarterback for the University of Colorado. Colorado will play Brigham Young University in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
