MARIETTA — Auditions for “Rabbit Hole,” a Pulitzer-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire, will be held 6-9 p.m. today at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theatre auditorium, 229 Putnam St.

Those who intend to arrive later than 6:30 p.m. are encouraged to arrive on the half hour.

Auditions will consist of reading from the script. As for all shows, everyone is welcome to audition regardless of acting experience.

Show dates are March 7, 8, 14, 15 and 16. Suzanne Walker is the director.

“Rabbit Hole’ is the story of a family undergoing a tragedy and learning what it means to continue with life when things fall apart. A 2010 movie of the same name and based on the script starred Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhardt.

Ages listed are suggested character age and not necessarily the age the actor must be.

* Becca: 30s-40s. Usually a very responsible, practical and sensible person. Her grief causes her to make some rash decisions throughout the play. Tough and uncompromising, she cannot tolerate insincerity or impracticality. Married to Howie.

* Howie: 30s-40s. A patient man who specializes in pretending everything is fine. He is caring and attentive to his family, but finds it challenging to reconcile how Becca deals with their shared grief.

* Izzy: 30s. Becca’s younger sister who is irresponsible and impulsive, but well-intentioned. Caught in a state of arrested development, but suddenly finds herself thrust into responsibility she has never known.

* Nat: 50s-70s. Becca and Izzy’s mother. Outspoken and opinionated, with a tendency to say the wrong thing. She is supportive of her daughters and frequently acts as their voice of reason.

* Jason: 17. A high school senior, awkward and shy, but sensitive and caring, who is at the center of a family tragedy. Although he has been told he bears no blame for what has happened, he places the burden of responsibility squarely on himself.
