COLDSPRING — The Coldspring City Council took a different tack toward completing a project, one that will save on costs for renovating portions of the sewer system.
Mayor John Benestante said that at the Dec. 2 meeting, the council awarded a bid for the hardware for the Pea Patch lift station project, spending $46,689 on an electrical control panel, pump rails and pumps, which will be supplied to a contractor for installation.
Benestante said he found the city could save money by providing the parts instead of having a contractor purchase the items.
The work is meant to upgrade the lift station from a single phase to a three-phase, since it will receive most of the sewage from the FM 2025 project, for which the city has received a grant to extend the sewer service down that road.
Benestante said the city will seek bids for construction of the pipeline in January 2025.
In a separate matter, the council granted Benestante the authority to sign a transfer of deed to put the Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department property and building to the city.
Benestante said the transfer will help the department by having funds available to replace the roof.
In other business, the council:
- approved a joint election contract with San Jacinto County to hold annual elections in March; and
- discuss beginning the process to install a truck route around the city. Benestante said TxDOT will help do a study; the city need to divert trucks from driving around the Courthouse Square, which is a bottleneck and becoming dangerous.
