Google‘s heyday as the information provider is over. The search engine faces competition from AI tools and social media.
The rise of new search services means that Google is no longer always number one, but somewhere in a top three.
A new report from marketing firm Yext shows that 64 percent of users start their search journey at a regular search engine by default. Just as easily, however, they switch to Instagram or TikTok. The latter is especially true for younger consumers.
Search engines lend themselves particularly well to explorations about brand information and targeted searches for specific products.
Anthony Rinaldi, boss of Yext’s Insights division, quite adamant with: “The number of Google impressions has decreased by between eight and 20 percent over the past two years.” By this he is referring to incoming traffic on the network of websites he has visibility into.
Such changes are forcing marketers to adjust their strategies based on Google algorithms and SEO.
