NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WAVE) – In New Albany, dozens of volunteers collected items to help out the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program making sure every child in our community has a present under their tree this season.
Volunteers like Grayson Romney and Emma Polk helped out with that effort.
“This is my first time.” Polk said.
“I was probably about six or seven when I could start coming with my mom and helping out.” Romney added.
The pair shopped for a four-year-old boy, giving him all the essentials from shoes, jackets and socks. Romney, now 17, said helping out with Angel Tree donations is personal.
“My little brother, he’s a little bit older than Ayden,” Romney said. “It kind of hit the heart a little bit because I was being able to help [someone] like a little brother get a good Christmas this year.”
The shopping spree was put on by Miles for Merry Miracles who teamed up with the New Albany Walmart, where the shopping spree took place. In the last 16 years Miles for Merry Miracles has helped more than 7,500 angels.
All Angel Tree donations are due Monday Dec. 9, except for the Green Tree mall in Clarksville, Ind. which are due on Sunday.
