Google wants to know what Gemini Extensions you need

Must read

As of this week, all the Gemini Extensions that have been previously announced are widely rolling out. Google is now asking Gemini users what other Extensions they want.

Extensions let Gemini access data and perform tasks on your behalf in other services. Recent launches have been focused on making the Gemini app on Android a better phone assistant. With the Utilities Extension, which was first previewed at I/O in May, Gemini no longer has to use the Google Assistant fallback for device controls.

First-party Extensions today include: Google Flights, Google Home (Public Preview, wider launch coming soon), Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Drive, Keep, and Tasks), Messages, OpenStax (Google project), Phone, Utilities, YouTube, and YouTube Music.

On the third-party front, there’s Spotify and WhatsApp for a grant total of 13 available Extensions on Android. (The iPhone app and gemini.google.com have access to seven.)

@GeminiApp on X yesterday asked: “Is there something you wish Gemini could do with other apps or services?” Google wants to know “what extensions you’re looking for.”

Before that, it would be great if Gemini Live could start accessing Extensions so it could be used for more than just searching and general knowledge conversations. Being able to converse with your information, especially when hands-free (like with Pixel Buds Pro 2), would be neat.
