LIBERTY, Mo. (KCTV) – It’s the holiday season and that means it’s time to shop. The Liberty Police Department is cracking down on crime at busy shopping centers around the city, to make sure everyone is safe.
Liberty Police said it’s time to roll out ‘Operation No,No,No.’
“The purpose of this is to deter theft, people from even coming to the area, or if a theft does occur, we’re there quickly and can apprehend people,” said Nathan Mulch, Captain of the Liberty Police Department.
Police are adding more officers, and you’ll see them circling parking lots in Liberty.
“They’re doing active patrols, they’re looking for anything that is suspicious, any people that are acting irregularly and just provide security to the area,” said Mulch.
Mulch said they have seen an uptick in organized retail theft, shoplifting and car break-ins in the last two to three years, but said they have seen a decrease in incidents since implementing their initiative.
“We think it’s just because of the major visible presence, people will come in see two or three officers driving around a parking lot and decide to go somewhere else,” said Mulch.

Some shoppers KCTV spoke with said holiday shopping does put them on edge, and realize they have to stay vigilant.
“It definitely does, just because it’s a more populated area right now. I think it’s easier to be shopping in all the different stores and get distracted, not really checking on your car, especially with Black Friday and things like that,” said Madelyn Darst, a shopper.
Other shoppers said they have always felt safe shopping around Liberty but they’re in favor of more patrols.
“It makes me feel better, it makes me feel more comfortable to walk around here and not worry about anything,” said Katie Vulgamore.
“I think it’s going to make it safer for everybody,” said Cheryl Lynn Gretz.
“I have a 3-year-old,” said Tiffany Mabery. “It does feel nice to have that piece of mind.”
Police said there are a few more tips to make sure you and your belongings are safe. If you have a purse make sure it’s zipped up and you don’t leave it in your cart unattended and if you have items in your car, make sure they’re not visible.
