HydroPulse Stuttgart gets €5 million in funding for H2 refueling infrastructure

Stadtwerke Stuttgart’s subproject will establish two new refueling locations in the city’s Neckartal district.

Stadtwerke Stuttgart (SWS) has secured an additional €5 million in funding for its hydrogen project, the Green Hydrogen Hub Stuttgart (GH2S).

The funding, approved by the Economic, Infrastructure, and Administration Committee of the Region Stuttgart Association, will support the HydroPulse Stuttgart subproject. This investment will be used to establish a new hydrogen refueling station and to develop another refueling site in Stuttgart’s Neckartal district, to be integrated into the upcoming H2 GeNeSiS pipeline.

Additionally, the funding will enable the purchase of three fuel-cell electric transporters and the installation of a high-temperature fuel cell at the new Energy Campus in Stuttgart-Wangen.

“With the HydroPulse Stuttgart subproject, we are successfully coupling the transportation, electricity, and heating sectors, making it an ideal complement to our overall Green Hydrogen Hub project,” explained Daniel Lust, project manager at SWS.

The Green Hydrogen Hub Stuttgart production facility located in the Stuttgart port area is set to break ground in spring 2025. Once operational in late 2026, the facility will include three electrolyzers capable of producing up to 1,000 tons of high-purity hydrogen annually using renewable electricity.

With the new funding secured, the HydroPulse Stuttgart subproject will be implemented alongside the Green Hydrogen Hub, supporting industrial, research, development, and transportations operations.
