SYRACUSE, N.Y — The City of Syracuse Auditor addressed a new report on Wednesday, November 20, titled “Incomplete Streets.”
The report highlighted the city’s need for more complete bike infrastructure. City Auditor Alexander Marion detailed his latest report in front of a bike lane on Syracuse University campus.
The report digs into the infrastructure needed for complete bike lanes and where it should be placed within the city.
Marion claimed city leaders are committed to a new comprehensive bike plan, which includes greater transparency surrounding bike projects. He also recommended updates to traffic codes, improved restoration after construction is completed and better snow removal.
“Small things on wheels, ebikes, bikes, scooters, skateboards, mobility devices, are becoming an ever greater presence on our roads and is part of our transportation landscape,” City Auditor Marion said. “”We are a multi-mobile transportation city, and so with that, we need to have the transportation infrastructure.”
The city’s current bike plan was enacted in 2012, and nearly 70 percent of the projects have not started yet.
