The top 10 high schools in Nevada, according to U.S. News and World Report

U.S. News & World Report released its annual report ranking the best high schools across the country. The American media company uses data from the Nevada Department of Education to determine the best high schools in Nevada based on six factors including: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates. 

Here’s a look at Nevada’s best high schools and the highlights from the report:

  6. Veterans Tribute Career Technical Academy in Las Vegas
  7. Las Vegas Academy of the Arts in Las Vegas
  8. Galena High School in Reno

What are the best high schools in Reno, Northern Nevada 2024?

  1. Academy of Art Careers and Technology

Academy of Art Careers and Technology is a career-technology school in Southeast Reno. It was ranked by the U.S. News & World Report as the top high school in Northern Nevada. It ranked No. 3 within Nevada overall and No. 521 nationally.

A vast majority of the student body (83%) participates in advanced placement coursework. 

The school has a median graduation rate of more than 95%, which is 13.6 percentage points more than the statewide graduation rate. 

  1. Coral Academy High School

Coral Academy is a K-12 publicly-funded charter school in Southeast Reno. It was ranked by the U.S. News & World Report as the second-best high school in Northern Nevada. It ranked No. 5 within Nevada overall and No. 777 nationally.

More than three-fourths of the student body participates in advanced placement coursework. 

The school has a median graduation rate of more than 95%, which is 13.6 percentage points more than the statewide graduation rate. Students also tested more than 20 percentage points higher in math and science proficiency compared to the rest of Washoe County School District students. 

  1. Galena High School

Galena High School is the third-best high school in Northern Nevada. It is the 8th-best high school in Nevada and No. 1,393 in the U.S. News & World Report’s national ranking. 

72% of the student body participates in advanced placement coursework. 

The school has a median graduation rate of more than 92%, which is 10.5 percentage points more than the statewide graduation rate. 

Students also tested more than 10 percentage points higher in math, science and reading proficiency compared to other Washoe County School District students. 

  1. Reno High School

Reno High School ranked No. 4 in Northern Nevada high schools, No. 12 in the state and No. 1,910 nationally. 

The school has a median graduation rate of more than 92%, which is 10.5 percentage points more than the statewide median. 

Students also tested more than 10 percentage points higher in math and reading proficiency compared to other Washoe County School District students. Reno High students tested 7 percentage points higher in science than other students in the district as well.

  1. TMCC Magnet High School

TMCC Magnet High School ranked No. 5 in Northern Nevada high schools, No. 13 in the state and No. 2,051 nationally.

The school has a median graduation rate of more than 95%, which is 13.6 percentage points more than the statewide graduation rate. 

TMCC Magnet students also tested significantly higher than their peers in math and reading. The student body tested 53 percentage points higher in math proficiency and 59 percentage points higher reading proficiency compared to other Washoe County School District students. They tested 8 percentage points higher in science than other students in the district as well.
