Today is Veterans Day, and even if you have to work, a lot of businesses are closed for the holiday.

Federal, state agencies and courts closed on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a federal holiday, meaning federal courts, Social Security Administration offices and non-essential governmental agencies will be closed.

Will mail be delivered on Veterans Day?

FedEx locations will be open on Veterans Day, and drivers will deliver mail according to their usual weekday delivery schedule.

The United States Postal Service confirmed there would be no regular delivery service on Veterans Day, although USPS will deliver Holiday Premium Priority Mail Express and Holiday Same Day Package Delivery items.

UPS locations, like FedEx, will be open on Veterans Day, and its drivers will deliver mail according to their usual weekday delivery schedule.

Will banks be open on Veterans Day?

Branches of Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, CitiBank and JPMorgan Chase will be closed on Veterans Day.

Most banks follow the holiday schedule, so expect to find your local branch closed for the day as well.

Veterans Day conceptualized by President Woodrow Wilson

President Woodrow Wilson created what is now considered Veterans Day in 1919 to commemorate Armistice Day.

The Uniform Holiday Bill, signed in 1968, was intended to create four three-day holidays: Columbus Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Washington’s Birthday (President’s Day).

Will restaurants and businesses be open on Veterans Day?

Many retail stores, including Target, Costco and Walmart, will be open. Check with your local businesses for alternative hours.
