Alzheimer’s Foundation of America scores $49K grant

With the Long Island region facing the epidemic of Alzheimer’s, help is on the way for families and those afflicted with the disease as construction continues on the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s (AFA) new Education & Training Center in Amityville, with the help of a $49,000 grant from the Town of Babylon. Announcing the grant within the center’s ongoing construction space are (left-to-right) Babylon Town Clerk Gerry Compitello; Bert Brodsky, AFA founder and board chair; Babylon Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer; Babylon Town Councilman Terence McSweeney; and AFA President and CEO Charles Fuschillo.

When completed in the opening days of 2025, the facility will provide essential services for the estimated 60,000 Long Island families currently facing Alzheimer’s as well as offer valuable training for the region’s professionals who assist them.

 

Safe Center LI honors H2M employees at annual gala

The Safe Center LI recognized H2M architects + engineers Vice President and Deputy Insurance Market Director Debbie Mattina, and Senior Project Scientist Ashley Little, as Partner of the Year at the nonprofit’s 10th Annual Gala. The event honors staff, volunteers, leaders and community champions whose dedication has helped foster a safer community for all.

As leaders of H2M’s Women’s Leadership Employee Resource Group (ERG), Little and Mattina have supported The Safe Center LI and its mission for several years. In 2024, the two industrial hygiene specialists organized events to make baskets for Mother’s Day, laundry kits and back-to-school toiletry kits. They also played an active role in other events hosted by the nonprofit organizations, such as networking events promoting women’s safety and situational awareness.

 

VNSHS celebrates 20 years of its Hospice House facility

Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk (VNSHS) marked a significant milestone in its history, celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Hospice House. The commemorative event, which was held at The Paramount Founder’s Room in Huntington, honored two decades of compassionate end-of-life care and highlighted the ongoing importance of hospice services in the community.

Established in 2004, Hospice House stands as a testament to VNSHS commitment to providing care with compassion and dignity.

The anniversary celebration, which drew more than 150 guests, featured the Grammy Award-winning sounds of Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks. The event successfully raised over $45,000, funds that will directly support the organization’s vital healthcare services.

 

St. Francis Hospital recognized for 75 years of AHA membership

The American Hospital Association (AHA) honored Catholic Health’s St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center in Roslyn, in appreciation for its 75 years of participation and leadership in the AHA. The association’s Regional Executive Michael Draine presented the award to the hosptial’s executive team.

With 364 licensed beds, St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center is New York State’s only specialty-designed cardiac center. In 2023 and 2024, the center was awarded the nationally recognized  HeartCARE Center designation by The American College of Cardiology (ACC)—the only ACC HeartCARE Center designation in the region, including the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and Westchester.
