New Clyde City Council members aim to address infrastructure and transparency issues

After the City of Clyde’s recent financial challenges two new faces will be on the City Council.

After a competitive race, first-time candidates David Mann and Aimee Jolly will join the council, bringing fresh perspectives alongside incumbent Jim Rector.

“There’s been a few hurdles in the city and I thought maybe with my experience that I could lend a helping hand and help the community,” Mann said.

Mann isn’t wasting any time laying out his priorities.

“As a council member I’m only one spoke in the wheel, but I plan to just vote my conscious and make sure, again my focus is gonna be on infrastructure first and everything else second,” Mann said. “Infrastructure needs to come first.”

As for transparency, Mann promises more regular updates and engagement.

“If it can be made public, let’s make it public,” Mann said. “And I plan to continue to encourage the town hall meetings periodically. I think that’s a good way for the citizens to know what’s going on in the community.”

Jolly agrees with Mann that the city is facing issues that need to be addressed.

“I wanna try to work on some better decision-making,” Jolly said. “We’ve had some bad decisions made in the past and I want to look forward to learning what’s happened, what can we change, what can we improve on? You know we have infrastructure problems, we have water problems, we have tax problems and I just wanna see what I can get into and make a difference in it.”

Jolly said she’s excited to see what the new council will accomplish.

“The other two winners, David Mann and Jim Rector are very positive about the future,” Jolly said. “So I think with all of us communicating more, we can make it much better in the next few years.”

Incumbent Jim Rector has yet to respond to requests for an interview, but he brings experience to round out this new team.
