The city of Livingston has just been awarded a $30o,000 grant to assist with the infrastructure, which will create new jobs and foster economic growth.
Issued by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, the Community Development Block Grant will provide sewer services on the west side of Interstate 59.
With this new system in place, construction of three new businesses including a hotel can be in operation. It will also create an additional 33 jobs.
“I am pleased to award these funds, and I am optimistic that this will lead to additional good economic news for Livingston, Sumter County and West Alabama,” Ivey said.
In addition to the new hotel, a commercial area with a gas station, travel center, and a restaurant will be added to the area.
“I commend developers and local officials for their work in a project that should pay dividends for Livingston and Sumter County,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
Livingston Mayor James Dial was notified of the approval of the grant, and the city will provide $187,000 in local funds toward the project.
