The 2024 NFL trade deadline has arrived, marking a critical decision day throughout the league.

With the cutoff looming Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, teams have one last opportunity to make a significant in-season shake-up, whether that’s making a splash for an established veteran or shipping one off to boost their draft capital or improve their salary-cap outlook. Several franchises have already taken advantage by engineering deals for notable names, and more could follow in the hours ahead.

USA TODAY Sports will be providing live updates on the latest news, rumors and deals throughout Tuesday, so check back throughout the day for more updates.

For three weeks, onlookers have expected the Detroit Lions to engineer a trade for a defensive end. Will a deal finally get done on Tuesday?

At 7-1, the Lions are sitting in the No. 1 seed in the NFC. But losing Aidan Hutchinson to a broken tibia and fibula has left Detroit’s defense with a significant hole, leading many to wonder how the team will gear up for a stretch run. While the unit has scraped by with Josh Paschal and James Houston is recent weeks, the edge rush would no doubt be a potential problem area in a playoff push.

On Monday, Dan Campbell again acknowledged the team is investigating its options but not yet committed to any one option.

“I don’t think it’s entirely up to us,” Campbell said Monday. “I can tell you we’re trying, (Lions general manager) Brad (Holmes is) trying, and we’ve looked at everything, we really have. Made a ton of calls and he’s been rolling on it, so we’ll see. We still got a little bit of time here. We’ve got till tomorrow evening, so we’ll see what happens.”

The Lions have been widely linked to Cleveland Browns defensive end Za’Darius Smith, who has five sacks in eight games this season.

While the talent pool has thinned considerably in recent weeks, there are still several intriguing players left atop our rankings:

  • 1. Azeez Ojulari, OLB, New York Giants
  • 2. Za’Darius Smith, DE, Cleveland Browns
  • 3. Jonathan Jones, CB, New England Patriots
  • 4. Arden Key, OLB, Tennessee Titans
  • 5. Chase Young, DE, New Orleans Saints

The 2024 NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The cutoff comes at the midseason point, as NFL owners voted in March to move it back one week from its traditional spot on the league calendar. After Tuesday, teams will not be able to make official trades until the start of the new league year in March, though they can unofficially agree to deals with one another after the season.
