Falconer eliminates Chautauqua Lake

FALCONER — Five Falconer girls combined for 42 kills as the sixth-seeded Golden Falcons took care of No. 7 Chautauqua Lake 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 in a Section VI Class C girls volleyball semifinal Friday evening.

It only gets harder for Falconer, which will take on No. 1 Portville, the three-time defending state champion, in the final at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Southwestern Central School.

Hannah Melquist had 26 assists, 12 kills, 14 digs, five aces and three blocks, while Mylie Zaranek had 10 kills and 23 digs Friday evening as the Golden Falcons knocked off the 2023 Class D state-champion Eagles.

Augustine Krenzer added eight kills and 16 digs; Emily Zaranek had six kills, five blocks and 21 digs; Nylah Sharpe had 24 digs; and Kaylee Green had six kills and four blocks for the Golden Falcons.

For Chautauqua Lake, Jeanine Group had eight kills and six aces; Karagan Fairbank had 13 assists, 21 digs, four kills and two aces; Alice Scarpine had 30 digs and two aces; Kinsley Motter had seven kills and two blocks; Sydney Williams had seven kills; and Makenna Smith had 22 digs and two aces.

PORTVILLE ROLLS PAST T’WOLVES

PORTVILLE — Adelyn Walker had 37 assists on 44 of Portville’s kills as the top-seeded Panthers beat No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 25-20, 25-9, 25-13 in a Class C semifinal.

Ali Haynes had 17 kills, 10 digs and two aces; Adriana Ensell had nine kills, 11 digs and four aces; and Mia Rhinehart added 18 digs, two assists and an ace for the Panthers, who will take on No. 6 Falconer in Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. final at Southwestern Central School.

CLASS B2

FREDONIA REACHES FINAL

AKRON — Londyn Wilmot had 15 kills and six blocks to power No. 5 Fredonia to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-10 sweep of No. 4 Akron in a Class B2 semifinal.

Elizabeth Morris added seven kills, an ace, nine digs and a block; Lydia LaBarr had a kill, eight aces and 11 digs; Maddie Saunders had an ace, 23 assists and a block; and Kaylen Rollins had four kills, an ace and nine digs for the Hillbillies, who will take on No. 7 Southwestern in Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. sectional final at Lake Shore High School.
