JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County — In Jacksonville, the New Bridge Street Project is continuing with landscaping and infrastructure upgrades.
City officials say contractors along New Bridge Street are making final steps with storm drain installation, sidewalk demolition and the install of a new sidewalk.
After crews on Heurth Street finish installing new storm drainpipes, they will begin milling and paving the roadway.
On Warlick Street crews have started installing a new sidewalk, brick utility strip and security lighting. In addition, city crews have begun installing landscaping.
In the area of Labor Finders to Johnson Drug, crews have demolished the old sidewalk and utility strip. This week, the new sidewalk, curb and gutter will be installed, with new security lighting and utility strip.
Crews have also started demolishing the sidewalk from the Conference Center to the Chill Zone.
Drivers should adhere to posted detours and be mindful of construction crews in the area.
The New Bridge Project overall involves a number of enhancements such as water systems, sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, medians, delivery areas, and the removal of overhead power lines. The primary objective is to enhance the infrastructure, prevent flooding, and create an attractive corridor that promotes local businesses and welcomes residents.
