Google Pixel 9a is generating quite the buzz even before its official release, and while there is still time for it to be unveiled, the rumor mill seems to be churning in full swing. Previous speculations have pointed towards the budget model moving away from the classic visor camera design that has remained the signature feature for the Pixel lineup and will come with a pill-shaped camera module instead. Now, reports have emerged suggesting this is not the only change in this category, and the primary camera setup might follow the likes of Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s main camera.
A new report claims the Pixel 9a primary camera will be dropped down to 48MP and will get a camera bump
It has been barely a month since a report came forward suggesting that Google is ditching the signature visor look and redesigning the camera island entirely. While there is still time for the budget phone packed with premium features to come out, just as other Pixel phones are not safe from leaks, Pixel 9a key details have also made their way out.
When the Pixel 7a was unveiled, it marked a huge upgrade as it featured a primary camera of 64MP and the same pattern was then followed by the Pixel 8 series. A report by Android Headlines now claims that the Pixel 9a could come with a 48MP main camera, which is the same as the on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Now, it seems like a downgrade given that the predecessor came with a 64MP sensor, but it comes with a larger aperture, which helps improve low-light performance and also delivers better-quality pictures with more clarity. Pixel 9a has a larger f/1.7 aperture in comparison to the Pixel 8a, which has an f/1.9 aperture, is relatively narrower, and does not perform in dark environments.
The camera changes are not the only addition to the new series. It will also feature a new “Add Me” capability, which was first introduced with the Pixel 9 series. The feature is AI-powered and creates a seamless group photo by incorporating the photographer into the shot. This addition highlights Google’s commitment to improving user experience and introducing more advanced AI-driven solutions.
Additionally, the device is said to be bigger, measuring 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9mm, and is relatively more than previous speculations suggested, bringing the total thickness of the bump to 9.4mm, which will make the camera slightly protrude. The size still remains compact and supports portability but the increase could be attributed to changes in the camera module or even battery.
The Pixel 9a is expected to arrive early in 2025, and more details will emerge as the launch date approaches.
