WASHINGTON (KNOE) – Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy announced 11 investment projects to improve water and sewer systems, update transportation infrastructure, and strengthen electrical reliability throughout the state. Five of those projects are based in Northeast Louisiana.

The City of West Monroe, Town of Marion, Ouachita Parish, Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center, and Town of Waterproof will receive a collective $1.7 million from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) to address infrastructure needs.

Overall, Louisiana will receive $4,084,100 as part of the package.

“This is great news for Louisiana and an investment in our economy and workforce,” Cassidy said. “Thanks to the Infrastructure Law, which I helped negotiate, we can expect to see even more dollars coming our way.”

According to a news release from Cassidy‘s office, the funding is available through Loiusiana‘s Economic Development Assistance Program; the DRA and the Louisiana governor‘s office work together to distribute the program’s funds appropriately.

The NELA projects and the amount they will be funded are as follows:

  • City of West Monroe – $509,000
    • Update and improve 770 feet of sewer infrastructure in Downtown West Monroe to facilitate the city’s growth, development and economic sustainability
  • Town of Marion – $454,000
    • Repair, rehabilitate and improve a 64-year-old sewer lift station to address poor conditions and health-code violations linked to the existing station and to provide and maintain adequate sewer service for residents
  • Ouachita Parish – $375,000
    • Emergency operations center renovation project to ensure effective emergency management and response capabilities in the region
  • Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center
    • Install a new electrical distribution system to improve the center’s electrical infrastructure, resulting in increased electrical reliability and capacity and expansion of community services
  • Town of Waterproof – $80,000
    • Replace the backup pumps inside of five sewer lift stations, providing more capacity to meet usage demands from the town’s residents, businesses and detention center while also addressing regulations set by the Department of Environmental Quality

Other municipalities that will receive funding from this package include the Town of Maurice, the North Desoto Water System, the City of Minden, the City of Kaplan, the Village of Plaucheville, and the Town of Lockport.
