Community input sought at Tuesday meeting

A public meeting that will shape the future of the town of Chautauqua and village of Mayville is Tuesday.

MAYVILLE — The Town of Chautauqua and Village of Mayville invite all community residents, business owners and other local stakeholders to attend a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. This event is an opportunity to weigh in on ideas and priorities that will guide the Town and Village in the next decade.

The meeting will be at the Carlson Community Center in Mayville’s Lakeside Park, and light refreshments will be served. The public meeting builds on community engagement efforts that have included surveys, interviews with community members, conversations at pop-up events, and even ideas from some of the community’s youngest residents.

Workshop attendees will review input and key issues identified through the community input, and then help determine which of those key issues should be at the center of the next long-range plan for the Village and Town in an interactive and fun format. The communities are working together on a joint Implementable Comprehensive Plan that will include a vision, targeted strategies and step-by-step action plans for the issues residents identify as being most important. This might include main street vitality, housing needs, recreation, land development issues, economic opportunity or other areas of concern. This is an ideal time for residents and other stakeholders to bring your ideas, learn more about the process, and get involved.

Members of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, led by chairperson Scott Cummings, encourage fellow community members to attend the Tuesday evening workshop. “We really need the community to let us know that we are on the right path, and haven’t missed key issues or concerns. Join us for cider and donuts, and participate in this fun and interactive event.” There will be additional opportunities in the coming months to contribute to the plan’s direction and respond to what develops. Future news about the plan and notification on ways to participate will be posted at www.chautauquamayvillefuture.com.
