MARQUETTE — County Road 550 near Sugarloaf Mountain’s south parking lot was closed for several hours after a car struck a utility pole Wednesday evening.
A Marquette County sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene after the sole occupant, the driver, crashed their Subaru Outback into a power line pole. The driver successfully exited the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
Fire began to spread from the pole to the start of the tree line. County Road 550 was shut down for several hours due to the risk of falling power lines. After the fire was extinguished, the Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Company replaced the pole.
The driver was evaluated by EMS on the scene and refused further treatment.
The sheriff’s department was assisted on scene by the Marquette Fire Department, Marquette Township EMS, Marquette Detailing, Marquette County Road Commission and Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Company.
