Motorola has announced that its smartphones will also be getting Google’s Circle to Search feature, but there are a lot of questions left unanswered.
Since its launch in January, Google’s Circle to Search feature has expanded to more devices from Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, as well as to more new phones recently. In September, Xiaomi launched its first devices with Circle to Search. Not long after, Honor announced plans to launch the feature on its unbelievably thin Magic V3 foldable and the Honor 200 series.
Motorola is also joining the party, having announced (under the radar) that Circle to Search is coming to its smartphones.
Imagine being able to search for something without having to switch between apps. That’s exactly what Circle to Search offers — a new way to search on select Motorola smartphones¹ with a simple gesture. With just a circle, highlight, scribble or tap, users can instantly get the information they need without leaving the app they’re in. Whether they’re browsing social media and come across an unfamiliar term, spot a pair of shoes they’d love to buy, or want to learn more about a restaurant’s menu, Circle to Search lets users search what they see on their device, no screenshots necessary.
The big question right now, though, is what “select Motorola smartphones” will be getting the feature.
There’s no indication in Motorola’s blog post whatsoever, so your guess is as good as ours. Given the limited rollouts we’ve seen from other brands, though, it’s very likely only a few models will be supported. The 2024 Razr foldables seem like an obvious choice, but it’s likely going to be hit or miss beyond that.
Motorola has also given no indication as to when Circle to Search will be available on its smartphones.
