This U.S. retailer raises compensation package to over $29/hour ahead of holiday shopping season

It’s like dangling candy in front of a young child just two months before Christmas.

In a move to keep more employees where they are, and even attract more candidates to join the Amazon team, the second-largest retailer in the U.S. – with an annual revenue of over $350 billion – has announced that it’s raising the pay for employees to $29 an hour, which breaks down to $22 in cash and $7 in benefits.

Not to mention the massive company offers employees insurance benefits from the first day on the job.

And get this, beginning in 2025, all Amazon employees are getting free Amazon Prime.

“Our front-line team members across our operations are a big part in bringing the magic of Prime to customers, and starting early next year, Prime will become part of their benefits package. Hourly team members in the U.S. will get Prime at no additional cost for as long as they are a part of the Amazon team,” the release states.

The jump in hourly pay for employees started way back in 2018 when employees were introduced to a starting pay of $15 per hour, which is nearly double the federal minimum wage.

Luring people who want to work for the company seems to be an ongoing challenge for the mega-retailer as they even have ongoing TV commercials that are continuously recruiting for open positions.

In addition to the number of perks, Amazon also offers employees pre-paid college tuition, where the company notes, “We think it’s better to pre-pay, so our team doesn’t have to incur out-of-pocket costs and then get reimbursed.”

So if you’re thinking about making an extra buck with the holiday season fast approaching, joining the Amazon team could be one way to do so.
