The Los Angeles Rams have had a disappointing start to 2024. As Week 7 approaches, they are 1-4 and have suffered multiple significant injuries on the offensive side of the ball.

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is among them, and has been out since injuring his ankle in Week 2. The Rams opted not to place the veteran receiver on Injured Reserve following the injury, which would have had him miss the next four games.

The Rams have also been without Puka Nacua since Week 1, which is a significant blow to their offense. Last season, Nacua set rookie records for receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486).

Here’s the latest on Cooper Kupp’s injury and potential return:

When will Cooper Kupp return?

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Kupp had a positive workout Monday and that his return this week is still possible.

The Rams return from their Week 6 bye and will host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. If they had placed Kupp on IR, he would be out for the matchup with the Raiders and could have made his return in Week 8. Instead, there’s a window open for Kupp to return this Sunday.

On Oct. 14, head coach Sean McVay told reporters Kupp is “making good progress.” Kupp had an on-field workout scheduled with trainers the same day, which will determine if he could return to practice this week. “There is a possibility that he could be ready this week, there also is a possibility that he may not be ready” McVay added.

McVay had previously said that Week 7 was “always an optimistic target date” for the 31-year-old receiver.

When was Cooper Kupp’s injury?

Kupp suffered his ankle injury in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season when the Rams played the Arizona Cardinals.

As two defenders dragged down Kupp, his ankle was rolled up in the tackle. Kupp spent the following week in a cast due to his high ankle sprain on the play.

Rams WR depth chart

With Cooper Kupp out and Puka Nacua still sidelined, here’s how the Rams depth chart looks at wide receiver:

The veteran Robinson has taken on a larger role alongside Tutu Atwell and rookie sixth-round pick Jordan Whittington. Since Week 2, Robinson has had 12 targets.

Atwell has led the team with 233 yards and has tied Whittington with 21 targets.
