Sean Manaea pitched seven one-run innings, and the Mets capitalized twice with two out and the bases loaded to secure a 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. With the win, the Mets took a 2-1 NLDS lead and have a chance to close out the series at home on Wednesday.
The win continues a remarkable run for a Mets team that appeared to be out of the playoff race at midseason and required a win on the final day of the regular season to secure its spot in the playoffs.
The Phillies now need to win two straight to avoid more playoff disappointment in a postseason that many believed was theirs for the taking.
Dodgers, Padres face off in 1-1 series
In the second game, Walker Buehler takes the mound for the Dodgers against Michael King for the Padres. King was thoroughly dominant in his first start of the 2024 postseason, going seven shutout innings and striking out 12 Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the wild-card series. In 15 career postseason starts, Buehler has a 2.94 ERA, and the Dodgers are 9-5 in those games.
The Padres cruised to a 10-2 win in Game 2 of this NLDS behind a pair of Fernando Tatis Jr. home runs, and the series is getting spicy as things head to San Diego.

The Dodgers turned a double play to get out of the fourth without giving up a run, but Freddie Freeman appears to have twisted his ankle while making the catch at first. He limped back to the dugout a bit there.

That’s another quick 1-2-3 inning after both Lux and Pages flied out to right and Edman grounded out to first. The Padres will head back to the plate now with a one-run lead.

After a chaotic few innings, the Dodgers get three quick outs there to end the third.

Miguel Rojas out for Dodgers
The Dodgers just pulled Miguel Rojas from the bases with an apparent groin injury. He pulled up near third base just now after being checked out in the bottom of the second.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers do have the bases loaded here with no outs in the third
The Dodgers are not out of this thing. They’ve loaded the bases with three quick singles to start the third inning.
After 2: Padres 6, Dodgers 1
Thanks to a number of Dodgers miscues and a big home run from Tatis, the Padres have broken this game wide open. They lead by five after just two innings at Petco Park.
Tatis hits a deep home run
The Padres aren’t slowing down. Fernando Tatis Jr. drilled a two-run home run to left field, and this game is getting out of hand quickly.
The Padres lead 6-1 in the second.
The Padres just added another off a deep sac fly from Higashioka. They lead now 4-1.

And there’s a two-run double up the right-field line from David Peralta. The Padres are suddenly up 3-1, and the Dodgers don’t have an out in the second.
Padres tie the game up
That could’ve been another double play for the Dodgers, but they didn’t get a single out after Bogaerts grounded to short.
Machado made it home safely to tie the game, and the Dodgers are meeting at the mound to try to reset.
Machado singled to center to start the bottom of the inning, and then he made it to third after a brutal error from Freeman on what could’ve been a double play on an easy ground ball from Merrill. San Diego is threatening to score here.
Smith struck out swinging, and both Lux and King grounded out for the Dodgers. That’s another quick 1-2-3 inning, this time from the Padres.
The Dodgers’ lead is still 1-0 after the top of the second.
Mookie Betts really wasn’t taking any chances today with his home run trot.

The Dodgers made quick work of the top of the Padres’ order in the bottom of the first. After three quick outs, the Dodgers will head to the second up by a run.
Betts’ home run was almost a carbon copy of his almost home run at Dodger Stadium in Game 2 — except Profar failed to make the catch this time. Betts, who got fooled by Profar’s concealed catch in Game 2, wasn’t getting fooled again. He stepped off the baseline before umpires officially signaled a home run.
Dodgers lead 1-0 after the top of the first.

Michael King struck out Shohei Ohtani for the game’s first out. But Mookie Betts got the best of him with a solo home run for a 1-0 Dodgers lead. Betts breaks an 0-for-22 postseason streak to put the Dodgers on top early.
