CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Tens of millions in funds approved by the California Transportation Commission will support key infrastructure projects across the Bay Area, including three projects underway in Contra Costa County.
Caltrans this week detailed $483 million in new allocations from the bipartisan infrastructure bill and California’s Senate Bill 1, with funds earmarked for bridge maintenance, rail upgrades and safety improvements for cyclists and pedestrians.
“We are committed to providing a world-class transportation system, by making smart investments to upgrade our infrastructure and better serve all travelers,” said Tony Tavares, Caltrans Director. “Increasing mobility for Californians demands a multi-modal approach that priorities improved safety, system-wide resiliency and sustainability, equitable access, and continued support for efficient movement of goods and services.”
In Contra Costa County, more than $3.7 million will support a project on State Route 4 in Antioch and Brentwood to rehab pavement and drainage systems and make ADA upgrades. Another $3.3 million will support pavement work and upgrades for guardrails and lighting on State Route 242 in Concord. Nearly $900,000 will cover the installation of pavement markers and other safety elements on Interstate 80 in Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole and Hercules.
Other allocations will help pay for upgrades and improvements across multiple Bay Area counties:
