Huge Change Just Happened On Google Calendars
At my house, we have a saying…”if it isn’t on the Google Calendar, it doesn’t exist”.
- Kids’ sports schedules – on the Google Calendar
- Kids’ work schedules – on the Google Calendar
- Kids’ concerts – on the Google Calendar
- Kids’s extracurricular activities – on the Google Calendar
- Kids’ doctor and orthodontist appointments – on the Google Calendar
And all of those items above, I make my kids put them in the Google Calendar. They know how to read their schedules and calendars and they are pros at all techy gadgets. It is NOT my job as the mom to put all of their events in the calendar. It is their job, especially if they want me to know when to pick them up or get them somewhere on time.
As we were in the middle of updating some of our activities the other day, I noticed that something was missing on the Google Calendar. I thought that maybe my kids accidently deleted these events on our Google Calendar. Turns out, it wasn’t my kids. Google made it disappear.

Several Items Have Disappeared From The Google Calendars
According to USA Today, a few public holidays that used to appear on the Google Calendar are being removed. You will still have the ability to add these yourself but Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Indigenous Peoples Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Pride Month are not going to be recognized automatically. Other commemorative months and public holidays are also still an option to add but it will need to be done manually by the user.
Why Did Google Remove These Public Holidays From Its Calendar
A statement from Google about this decision was shared in a story by CBS News which stated that there were hundreds of dates that were being maintained but doing this consistently wasn’t sustainable. In 2024, Google made the decision to only show the public holidays and national observances from timeanddate.com globally.
