Projects in Centre County ranging from a long-planned skate park to building and park improvements to fire and EMS equipment were awarded a combined $3,252,968 in state grants this week.
Fifteen local municipalities and agencies in the county received the grants from Statewide Local Share Account Program, which distributes gaming revenues across the commonwealth for projects in the public interest, and from the new Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program.
Centre County
$83,390 to allow the Strawberry Fields Transportation Program to purchase a fully accessible van with a wheelchair lift to transport residents with disabilities.
Halfmoon Township
$118,891, including $82,385 for Port Matilda EMS to replace its existing 18-year-old, high-mileage paratransit van with a newer vehicle and $36,505 to allow Port Matilda EMS to purchase a power-lift stretcher.
Howard Borough
$147,042 for Howard Fire Company to purchase a quick response vehicle
Howard Township
$121,454 for the purchase of a skid steer and attachments.
Miles Township:
$140,815 for the purchase of a municipal work truck.
Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership Inc.
$100,000 for second-phase renovations to the Moshannon Valley Enterprise Center in Philipsburg for roof repairs, restroom modernization, window replacement, stormwater management and floor work.
Patton Township
$102,500 to replace the roof on a township building that serves as an emergency shelter.
Penn Township
$118,117 for the purchase of a truck with a snowplow and cinder spreader.
Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District
$490,692 to replace deteriorated roof sections at Philipsburg-Osceola Senior High School.
Potter Township
$150,000 for replacement of Lake Road Bridge, which crosses Sinking Creek.
Rush Township
$161,846, including $103,985 a new brush truck for Mountain Top Fire Department and $57,861 for township maintenance equipment including two plows, a vibratory roller, a pressure washer and a tilt trailer.
Snow Shoe Township
$701,358 for additional improvements to the Moshannon Community Center, renovating the EMS facility, HVAC improvements at the fire company facility and a new municipal garbage truck.
Spring Township
$700,000 for the first phase of improvements to its community park.
State College Area School District
$251,805 for HVAC system improvements at Mount Nittany Middle School.
State College Borough
$250,000 for the construction of a 20,000-square-foot action sports park at High Point Park.
State College Borough Redevelopment Authority
$105,750 for the Nittany Performing Arts Centre to begin design and engineering work for a 200-seat studio theater and an 800-seat, full-sized stage with an orchestra pit, a lobby with concessions, parking and related features.
