2024 Paris Olympics live updates: Katie Ledecky goes for 8th gold as Team USA swimming, diving compete

Good morning! It’s the fifth day of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Here are the medal events and big Team USA moments to look out for today.

BMX Cycling is back after debuting in Tokyo. Five-time world champion Hannah Roberts will look to improve on the silver medal she won in 2020. The Women’s Freestyle Final is at 07:10 a.m. ET, 1:10 p.m. local time. The Men’s Freestyle Final is at 08:44 a.m. ET, 2:44 p.m. local time.

In Women’s Swimming, Katie Ledecky will compete in the final of the Women’s 1500m Freestyle, one of her strongest events. That’s at 3:13 p.m. ET, 9:13 p.m. local time. The 100m Women’s Freestyle Final takes place at 2:30 p.m. ET, 8:30 p.m. local time. 

Elsewhere, in Men’s Swimming, the 200m Butterfly Final is at 2:37 p.m. ET, 8:37 p.m. local time; the 200m Breaststroke Final is at 4:31 p.m. ET, 10:31 p.m. local time; and the 100m Freestyle Final is at 4:39 p.m. ET, 10:39 p.m. local time. 

In Diving, the Women’s Synchronized 10m Platform Final is at 05:00 a.m. ET, 11:00 a.m. local time. China — which won gold last time around — is a favorite, and the pair of Quan Hongchan and Tokyo Games-winner Chen Yuxi are competing. Americans Jessica Parratto and Delaney Schnell, who won silver in Tokyo, are also in the final.

After the Women’s Individual Triathlon was allowed to go ahead, following 2:00 a.m. ET, 06:00 a.m. local time. The Men’s Individual Triathlon is set to begin at 04:45 a.m. ET, 10:45 a.m. local time.

Judo — Men’s and Women’s, Various beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET, 4:00 p.m. local time.

Canoe — Women’s Slalom Single Final at 11:25 a.m. ET, 5:25 p.m. local time.

Gymnastics — Men’s Artistic Gymnastics All-Around Final at 11:30 a.m. ET, 5:30 p.m. local time.

Fencing — Men’s Sabre Team Finals at 1:30 p.m. ET, 7:30 p.m. local time.

Surfing — Women’s Heats are on course to go ahead at 6:00 p.m. ET, 12:00 a.m. Paris time, 12:00pm local time, but they will be subject to weather conditions.
