College football changes seemingly every other day. In recent years, we’ve seen the sport completely overhaul conferences, postseason formats and even the business model controlling the sport. In the blink of an eye, it feels like we went from a sport where players had no control to nearly all of it. Through it all, however, one constant that remains is the Army vs. Navy Game on the final Saturday of the regular season.
The two oldest rivals in college football will meet for the 125th time at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, on Saturday with the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy on the line. While the academies have played for it every year since 1972, it’s only the eighth time the Army vs. Navy Game has served as a “winner-takes-all” stage.Â
Even if there weren’t a trophy on the line, this game would still mean everything to both. It’s the only game played in American sports where every participant on the field is willing to sacrifice their life for those watching in the stands or at home.
